Castle Explorers at Weoley Castle Ruins

Travel back in time to medieval Birmingham!

Take part in a costumed role play session as we explore the ruins of Weoley Castle and find out about the people who lived and worked at this important historical site. Can you identify the mystery objects from the past and will you be strong enough to wear the armour of a knight?

Aston Hall Uncovered

Take a tour of Aston Hall and uncover the history of this magnificent Jacobean mansion. 

Learn about the lives of the wealthy Holte family and their servants by exploring different rooms in the house, from the grand Long Gallery to the lowly servants’ quarters. Plus, discover Aston Hall’s links with monarchs from the past, including Charles I and Queen Victoria.  Your class will handle replica artefacts, dress up as key characters, and learn a 17th-century dance in this interactive session.

A Rhyme through Time at Blakesley Hall

Build observational skills and extend vocabulary by using traditional rhyme and action to discover life in the past.

Pupils will see the type of fire Polly would put her kettle on, help the dish run away with the spoon in the Hall and join the king singing ‘Lavender’s Blue’ to his queen in a parlour fit for royalty. There’s also the chance to play with replica Tudor toys and sing nursery rhymes in the Children’s Bedchamber.

River Study at Sarehole Mill

Explore rivers and the importance of water power at Sarehole Mill.

Together, we take a journey discovering how water powers the mill, before following the water as it flows away to join the river.
Using maps and compasses, pupils will explore river features and participate in river fieldwork. Wellies (and warm clothes) are essential as pupils will be entering the river during the workshop - local river conditions permitting.

Matthew Boulton and Soho House

Come and explore the home of industrial pioneer, Matthew Boulton.

Your class will discover the life of this inspirational local figure through costume, artefacts and hands-on activities. See where he lived, find out who the Lunar Society were, learn about servants’ lives and try to spot all of the clever features and inventions hidden in Soho House.
