Mysterious Half Term happenings at Birmingham Museums

Things are getting mysterious at Birmingham Museums this half term as families can take part in murder mystery trails at Aston Hall, delve into the world of Middle Earth at Sarehole Mill and find out about the mystery of the Staffordshire Hoard at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.

There will also be plenty of arts and crafts fun across our sites and even the chance to meet some animals at Blakesley Hall for those little ones who love all creatures great and small. Not forgetting the chance to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Thinktank as part of the ‘Mechanical THINGS’ exhibition before he drives away – there’s a whole host of fun to be had!

Aston Hall

Aston Hall  will be opening its doors for a special Whoddunnit? event perfect for all the family. On the 23, 24, and 26 February, there’s a mystery that needs to be solved and you will need to investigate it after an unexpected visit by King Charles I brings visitors and strangers to Aston Hall and one of them is found dead. This light-hearted event will see families explore the magnificent surroundings of the hall, learn about its history and interview the suspects.

Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

Families will be transported back in time at a range of events at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery throughout half term covering Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt, and the Anglo-Saxons.

Children will love the chance to explore the world of the ancient Greeks, with themed craft sessions, photo studio and storytelling based on the popular CBeebies television programme Teacup Travels.

With activities taking place throughout the week children will love the chance to discover the mysteries of the past.

Sarehole Mill

Sarehole Mill  is celebrated as one of the locations which inspired JRR Tolkien and his writings of Middle Earth, so what better way for little Hobbits to discover this museum than with activities such as making a Hobbit hole and Middle Earth themed crafts, throughout the half term week.

Elsewhere at Birmingham Museums

There’s an animal takeover at Blakesley Hall as a week of animal-themed activities will keep little ones captivated, including crafts and the chance to meet some amazing animals at Animal Mania, including creepy crawlies and giant bunnies, on 24th February. (Due to demand please reserve your place to guarantee entry).

Families can continue to enjoy the Mechanical THINGS exhibition at Thinktank throughout half term as they step inside the whimsical and wonderful world of inventions by eccentric English inventor Rowland Emett, including the chance to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
