Student Volunteering Week 2015

This week is National Student Volunteering Week and we have a whole host of things going on to celebrate the fantastic contribution students make to our organisation through volunteering!

We have University of Birmingham students joining us for a garden volunteering project at Blakesley Hall and we have a blog coming out from one of our current student volunteers; our Fine Art Curator’s Assistant.  Also, we are at Aston University talking about our current volunteering opportunities and we have a group of year 9 students from Handsworth Wood Girls school joining us to find out about working and volunteering in museums!

Alongside all that we also have the pleasure of announcing our Student Volunteer of the Year for 2015. This year’s winner has been volunteering with us at Thinktank for over 2 years. She’s an invaluable member of our Young Person’s Forum Ignite, and has been involved in a whole host of activities – including our last two Teen Takeover days!

Congratulations to Ellie Horsfall-Tait and thank you for all your hard work and dedication to volunteering!

Our winner was selected by our Director of Engagement, Janine Eason and our Volunteer Development Officer, Alex Nicholson-Evans. This year there were so many incredible nominations that we've also selected a runner up for the award. We also wanted to recognise a volunteer who has gone above and beyond at one of our Heritage Sites; supporting craft activities and even delivering her own mini guided tours. For 2015 our runner up for Student Volunteer of the Year is Sophie Trevis. Congratulations Sophie!

Thank you to all of our student volunteers – we adore having you and hope you continue to enjoy volunteering with us!

If you are interested in volunteering for Birmingham Museums Trust then take a look at the current volunteering opportunities we have available across all our sites.
