Student Volunteering Week 2018

It is that time of year again… National Student Volunteering Week! This is the week when we really celebrate all of our brilliant volunteer team members who are also busy studying whilst they support us.

To celebrate Student Volunteer Week we are announcing Birmingham Museums Student Volunteer of the Year for 2018. This year’s winner has volunteered with us for over a year and has really supported our Portable Antiquities Scheme by volunteering as an Archaeological Finds Recording Assistant. So congratulations to Aimee Hinds and a huge thank you from Birmingham Museums for all your time, effort and dedication to volunteering with us. We especially love this photograph of Aimee getting into character on a visit to another museum, definitely sums up her love of history!

Every year it is tough for our Director of Engagement, Janine Eason, to select a winner especially when we receive such amazing nominations. So this year we have decided to award two runners up for Student Volunteer of the Year 2018. These are Hannah Bramwell, who has tirelessly supported Blakesley Hall throughout her degree, and Charlie Fitz-Harris, a valued and crucial member of our Arts Council Collection team at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. Well done to Hannah and Charlie and thanks so much for all of your hard work supporting us

To give you an idea of some of the things Birmingham Museums’ student volunteers get up to we have three new blog posts coming up this week from Kelly, Tabassum and Rosie. So keep an eye out to hear what it is like to volunteer with our Natural Science Curator, to volunteer in our Conservation Club and to volunteer as an Engagement Assistant. The posts show just a little taster of what our student team members get up to and we are so grateful for all the time they dedicate to supporting us. Thanks so much guys and here is to another great year.
