Staffordshire Hoard Appeals

The story of the Staffordshire Hoard is still shrouded in mystery. Who owned these amazing objects, how did their makers achieve such fine detail, and why was every item destroyed and buried?

We have two Staffordshire Hoard appeals.

Research and Conservation Appeal

Help uncover the stories of the Hoard by donating to the scientific and historical research programme, and the essential conservation of the objects.

“The research and conservation of the Staffordshire Hoard has so far yielded significant results. To complete the final phase of this work we are asking the public and our supporters to donate to our fundraising campaign.”
Dr Ellen McAdam, Director of Birmingham Museums Trust

How to donate towards Staffordshire Hoard Research and Conservation:

  • Donate online
  • Text STAF09 £3 to 70070
  • Call 0121 348 8293 to pay by card
  • Post a cheque made payable to Birmingham Museums Trust (address below).

Treasury Appeal - Object Handling and Display

The Treasury Appeal supports the production of handling replicas of key objects, which will help children and visitors with additional needs understand the story of the Staffordshire Hoard. High quality replicas, which thanks to local jewellery skills will be indistinguishable from the originals, will be displayed in the gallery when objects are exhibited by other museums.

“Being able to handle a replica artefact and examine the intricate designs close up allows visitors to experience the Staffordshire Hoard in a new way.”
Pieta Greaves, Staffordshire Hoard Conservation Coordinator.

Help share the story of the Staffordshire Hoard by donating to the Treasury Appeal and receive great rewards. How to donate:

  • Donate online

Birmingham Museums Trust (on behalf of Birmingham City Council) is the joint acquiring partner of The Staffordshire Hoard with The Potteries Museum, Stoke-on-Trent (part of Stoke-on-Trent City Council). We are working with partners in Staffordshire County Council, Lichfield District Council, Tamworth Borough Council, The British Museum, English Heritage and the Portable Antiquities Scheme. The Staffordshire Hoard was originally acquired in March 2010 thanks to a public donations campaign led by the Art Fund, the national fundraising charity for art.
