Join us for a spectacular live demonstration of the art of Arabic calligraphy by world renowned master, Haji Noor Deen . This is a unique opportunity to see first-hand how Noor Deen creates his spectacular artwork. At the end of the demonstration there will be an opportunity to purchase a selection of his work.
Noor Deen’s practice fuses both the Chinese and Arabic traditions. Through his calligraphy he brings an immense amount of knowledge in Islamic art and traditional thought to a modern audience. Born in 1963 in Yucheng, Shandong Province China, Haji Noor Deen was the first Chinese person to gain a certificate of Arabic Calligraphy in Egypt. Today, his work is part of museum collections from The British Museum, San Francisco Asian Museum, National Museum of Scotland and Harvard University Art Museum.
After the demonstration, take time to see the incredible Birmingham Qur'an . This is one of the world’s oldest Qur’anic manuscripts written in an early form of Arabic script, only on display in Birmingham until August 3rd.
