We are recruiting for six members of our Youth Climate Forum at Thinktank, a volunteer opportunity open to 16-25 year olds.
Are you interested in climate change and the future of our planet, and want to help make a difference?
If you want to help Birmingham’s people learn about the crisis facing our Earth, and about actions we can all take to make a difference, and you want to make sure that Birmingham Museums Trust is committing to its own actions, then we want to hear from you.
Birmingham Museums Trust runs nine sites in the city, from modern to ancient buildings, many with green outdoor spaces. At Thinktank, Birmingham’s Science Museum, we also have a new gallery, Our Changing Planet, opened in 2021, which is helping visitors learn about the climate crisis and about how we can all help protect our planet. In 2021, the Trust is also launching its Climate Pledge, setting out our own commitments to the planet, and looking at how we can make our sites and services more sustainable.
We are currently recruiting for our first Youth Climate Forum. We want to ensure that the young people of our city can have a voice in our museums and exhibitions and can help ensure we stick to what we’ve said we’ll do. Our Youth Climate Forum will work with us to keep Our Changing Planet up to date and relevant with the latest information, will help spread the word about climate change, and will monitor and shape our climate actions.
This role commitment to 15-20 hours with a bursary of £500 (paid in 4 instalments over 12 months). There will then be six evening meetings to attend during the year and you’ll also be invited to events, and to support activities during weekend/holiday activities.
What does the role involve?
Attending six Youth Climate Forum meetings a year, and supporting ongoing events during school holidays or weekends.
- Help research and choose objects and information for the Our Changing Planet gallery
- Help us spread the word about the gallery, our work, and Birmingham Museums Trust through blogs, social media and events
- Help shape the future of the Youth Climate Forum by setting your own priorities for Year 2
- Keep Birmingham Museums on track by reviewing our Climate Pledge’s actions
What can you bring to the team?
- An ability to work independently at times but be a good team player too
- Confidence in sharing your opinions and stories
- Honesty, reliability and commitment
- A passion for climate action and an interest in Birmingham Museums Trust
How to apply
Interested in being on the Youth Climate Forum at Thinktank?
