Student Volunteering Week 2019

Whenever February comes around the corner I always get excited about National Student Volunteering Week! This is the week of the year when we really shout out about all those brilliant members of our volunteer team who are busy doing lots of studying too.

Student Volunteer of the Year

To celebrate Student Volunteering Week each year we announce Birmingham Museums Trust’s Student Volunteer of the Year. The 2019 winner has volunteered with us for two years as a Heritage Interpreter at Sarehole Mill. So huge congratulations to Elinor Cole and a huge thank you from all of us here at Birmingham Museums for your time, passion and dedication to volunteering with us.

It was ever so heart-warming to hear about how much Elinor enjoys her volunteering with us: “I absolutely love volunteering at Sarehole - I think it's impossible not to become fond of the site, it’s story and it’s wildlife - but it is the team there that truly make it a joy.”

Year on year it is such a tough decision for our Director of Engagement, Janine Eason, to choose a winner, especially as our team are so brilliant. So this year our Runner Up is Phoebe Kelly, who has been such an asset to the Birmingham Heritage Week team and helped deliver a fantastic festival last year.

Well done to Phoebe for all of her hard work supporting us and we love how much she enjoys being part of the team too: "I've really enjoyed volunteering with you all and am so flattered that the team thought my efforts were worthy of nomination.”

Elinor and Phoebe have both written blog posts about what it is like to volunteer at Birmingham Museums, so do keep an eye out during Student Volunteering Week for their posts and for our lovely Emily’s too. These blogs are only a small taster of what our student volunteer team get up to and we are ever so lucky that they have chosen to support us whilst studying so hard. Thanks so much everyone!
