Lecture 1 – Love, Betrayal, Poison and Death, part one

Looking at artworks in the collection on the theme of love, betrayal, poison and death, we consider life’s tangled web of strong emotions which can sometimes lead to powerful consequences. This talk will look at some of the artists’ pigments – their discoveries, early poisonous properties, accidents, secret recipes, anecdotes and symbolism.

Lecture 2 - The Bredon Hills Roman Coin Hoard

In this lecture, Victoria Allnatt, Find Liaison Officer for the Portable Antiquities Scheme, talks about the discovery of the Bredon Hill Roman Coin Hoard and other fascinating finds from Worcestershire.

Focus talk 1

Jane Hornby takes a closer look at Work, by Ford Madox Brown. This picture of Victorian England depicts classes, poverty and the meaning of the figures in the painting.

Focus talk 2

The Ice House at Aston Hall – Jane Hornby explores the purpose of the Ice House and how it was built and used.
