Join tour guide James for tours:  Treasures and History of the Museum (at 12pm) and Where on Earth did that come from? (at 2pm).

12pm - Treasures and History of the Museum

Take a look at some of our most treasured collections on display throughout the galleries.

2pm -  Where on Earth did that come from?

Birmingham Museums’ collections have not stopped growing since The Sultanganj Buddha became one of the first objects to enter our care in 1862, but have you ever wondered, ‘how on earth did it all end up here’?

This entertaining tour tells the stories of how many of the pieces found their way into the current collection. Be prepared for tales of valiant Victorian ladies, eccentric heiresses, methodical metal detectorists, cunning curators and more than the odd stroke of luck. From ancient Mexican gold to a bronze Buddha, via taxidermy, philanthropy, paintings and plaster casts, these stories will help explain how the collection has, and always will, continue to evolve.
