Volunteering at Sarehole Mill
Sarehole Mill is a 250 year old working watermill famous for its association with author J.R.R Tolkien and also for an award winning volunteer team.
Our volunteer Millers are the ones that help us to mill on Wednesdays and Sundays and they do everything from using the mill to create flour, baking and maintaining the water wheel, to teaching visitors how the machinery works. Read about Allan’s experience volunteering in his Miller case study (PDF).
When you visit the Mill you’ll probably spot our Heritage Interpreters talking to the public about the site, sharing stories and directing people around the Mill. This wonderful team also help to research the site and new ways of engaging visitors and are often getting involved in our events programme too.
Our Garden Team Members single-handedly keep the stunning gardens around the Mill Pond looking wonderful and help Sarehole have such a welcoming feel to it.
We are extremely grateful to have an amazing volunteer team at Sarehole Mill.
