Experience life as a Victorian Apprentice in this interactive, costumed role play tour in this 2-hour session.
Your class will learn how the local area has changed over time with the use of photos and maps. They are then transported back in time to experience life as a Sarehole Mill apprentice during the Victorian times. They will learn about the various jobs within the mill and the working conditions and hardships of Victorian child workers.
Your class will dress up in our historical Victorian costumes, they will meet the strict Miller or Miller’s wife who will check their suitability for apprentices, guide them through the process of flour making at the mill and finish by using Victorian style pens and ink to sign the indenture promising to not reveal the secrets of Sarehole Mill to other millers!
The students are handling wheat, grain and flour within the session.
At Sarehole Mill we can only deliver one taught session at a time. However, you can now bring two classes for a full day and take part in self-led activities whilst waiting for your session.
School visits to Sarehole Mill are available Wednesday - Friday.
