Inspired by the innovations and technical breakthroughs in coinage at Boulton’s Soho Mint in the 18th century, local artists Chris Poolman and Elizabeth Rowe launched ‘Good Money – A Currency Competition for Handsworth’.
Over the last few months local residents have been designing their own currency and nominating local Handsworth ‘visionaries’ who will have their profiles cast on the coins. The coins will be minted in Birmingham and presented to local people both as a limited edition artwork and as a celebration of local heroes.
Visit Soho House to view the finished coins and some of the shortlisted designs. Entry to the exhibition is free. See the Visit Us page for opening times.
This project has been made possible through New Expressions 3, an Arts Council England national pathfinder programme that fosters collaboration between contemporary artists, museums and their audiences. Visit the New Expressions website to discover other events across the country.
