Carrying on with our Watt 2019 celebrations, all throughout June we will be holding tours dedicated to the lives and works of James Watt and his longstanding friend and business partner Matthew Boulton.
Take a tour from the cradle to the grave of two of the world’s most prominent industrialists in the surroundings of Soho House, the meeting place of the Lunar Society. Using a selection of items and objects to represent the key events and milestones of Boulton and Watt’s lives, we explore how this unlikely friendship blossomed into one of the most important partnerships in British history.
Find out about the early years of these two figures, and how these key years shaped their future journey. Learn about how Watt’s innovations redesigned the steam engine and how, in partnership with industrialist and entrepreneur Matthew Boulton, they played a major role in the earliest days of the industrial revolution.
We will be running these one-off tours throughout the month of June instead of our regular tours, so be sure to book yourself on to celebrate the bicentenary of James Watt!
Tours of the house take place on Sunday 2 June, then every Wednesday and Thursday until 27th June, at 11.30am, 1.00pm and 2.30pm.
