Come and celebrate all things medieval with us! There will be lots of different activities to take part in including a craft activity, a family friendly trail, re-enactors who will show you what life was like in medieval times, our friendly volunteers will be on hand to share the history of the site and you can also meet real archaeologists!
Did you know that one of the biggest archaeological digs in the UK is taking place right here in Birmingham? As part of the preparations for HS2’s phase one, an archaeological team from MOLA Headland is excavating the Park Street burial ground, close to the city centre. The team is thrilled to be at the Woeley Castle Medieval Open Day. They’ve been discovering new information about life and death in Birmingham during the 19th century, as well as the Medieval origins of Digbeth.
While you’re here, children can also take part in a small replica archaeological dig, and learn more about the human body from our experts. Visitors will also be able to handle some of the artefacts found at Park Street.
To find out more about the programme or for information on what is going in your local area, or how you can get involved, visit www.hs2.org.uk .
Children must be supervised at all times.
