Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery BookAbout A Legacy forged - Author's Talk and Q&A with Sara Fox
The Seller & Son series brings Birmingham’s past to life through the story of Matthew Seller, a ten-year-old boy who fled a violent home in 1822 and found his way to the city via its newly built canals. From humble beginnings, he built a business that shaped both his community and generations of his family. Set against the backdrop of Victorian Birmingham, the “Workshop of the World”, this is a story of an ordinary family within an extraordinary city.

About the author
Sara Fox grew up surrounded by stories and lived through one which changed the dynamic of her family forever. She carried the weight of this tale for thirty years, having promised her parents she would write it. Then the time was right. At last, she had the time to research and curate the stories, but what she found exceeded anything she could have invented. Her mother was right, you couldn’t make it up.
Sara brings to A Legacy Forged and the Seller & Son series something rare in historical fiction. She has original notes tracing memories back over 200 years. With over thirty years supporting her ex-army husband and as a former complementary health practitioner, with knowledge in healing, counselling and end-of-life care, she has a rich vein of life experience to tap into. Her experience gives her the ability to write complicated truths, and to shape raw family legend into a vivid, breathing narrative. Sara is one of the very few novelists who centre her novels in Birmingham.
When she isn't deep in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Sara can be found in the garden with a decent flat white or sharing a glass of fine wine or a tot of Irish whiskey, with her husband. They are both servants to their Border Collie, Flossie, who inspired a character in A Legacy Forged and a sassy cat, Teasel, who is waiting to find out which character she will inspire.
