The Picture Library can help you with finding and using images of the works from our collection, sites, and exhibitions.

Public Domain

Out-of-copyright collections are freely available under a Creative Commons CC0 licence, at a size of up to 3Mb files and up to 300dpi. Images can be found and downloaded from our Images website. This resource is rapidly growing as we regularly add images of the collection.

Licensing Images

Please read our Public Task Statement. If you would like to reproduce a high resolution image from our collection or to enquire about a work that is still in copyright, please contact the Picture Library. There is a fee for the licensing of these images.

Ordering prints of works from the collection

If you are looking for prints of works from the collection you can order them on our online shop. If you can’t find what you are looking for, do get in touch and we will do our best to help.

Offline archive

We are always available to research in our offline archive to find the right images for your requirements. For an additional fee, you can arrange for new photography of any object from our collection.

For questions about copyright, using an image or other enquiries please contact us.

  • Special terms and conditions may apply for temporary exhibitions and displays - in this case you will see a request not to take photographs in that gallery or space. Please consult with a member of staff who will be able to advise if you are unsure.
  • Photography may be limited at times due to volume of visitors and is not allowed in areas where children are using the galleries.
