The entrance to Thinktank is now located on the ground floor, level 0.

Opening Times

Thinktank is open Wednesday – Sunday, 10am - 5pm.

Last admission is 4pm.

Booking Tickets

Book tickets online. All visitors, including those with membership, will need to pre-book a timed ticket in advance.

**Planetarium shows are £2.50 per person in addition to the Thinktank admission price. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket desk on arrival. The planetarium is operating on a reduced capacity due to COVID-19 safety protocols, as a result tickets to the planetarium cannot be guaranteed for every visitor at this time.

Test and Trace

The online booking system will keep your contact details for the period required following your visit.

If you come to the museum without a timed ticket booking you will be asked to book via your mobile phone, or you can book a ticket at the ticket desk onsite. If we have no tickets available you will not be able to enter the museum, because of this we advise all visitors to book online before they arrive. 

On arrival at Thinktank we will request contact details of every visitor over the age of 16. You will be asked to check into the site via the QR code poster using the NHS COVID-19 app on arrival, we also have a paper system available.

When you visit

To help keep you and all museum visitors and staff safe, we ask that you please:

  • Wear a face covering inside the building.
  • Use hand sanitiser on entering the building and regularly throughout your visit.
  • Do not pass your phone or printed tickets to our staff. You may be asked for your name and booking number.
  • Do not exceed one bubble/family group in each toilet facility or lift at any one time.
  • Follow the one-way system at all times. If you need assistance please contact a member of staff.
  • Contactless card payments are preferred in order to limit personal interaction but cash will be accepted.
  • Keep a safe distance from other visitors and staff.
  • Please be aware that lockers are not available for use.

Do not visit us if you are feeling unwell, have any symptoms of Covid-19 or have been in contact with anyone that has had the virus in the last 14 days. Please contact us at hello@birminghammuseums.org.uk to reschedule your visit.

Safety Information

Thinktank has cleaners working throughout the day focusing on touch points and toilets to keep the museum safe and clean.

The air handling units for the museum are not recycling any air but taking it direct from outside.

MiniBrum is cleaned regularly throughout the day and we have multiple sets of kits to enable staff to remove used items for regular cleaning.

Signal Box Café 

To keep you and other diners safe we have the following measures in place:

  • We are currently only able to accommodate groups of up to six people.
  • There will be table service at the Signal Box Cafe. Please wait to be seated when you arrive.
  • Customers are required to scan the café QR code (or use our paper based system) on arrival as NHS Test and Trace data collection is compulsory for hospitality venues.
  • Staff will be wearing masks and you’ll also find Perspex screens in operation.
  • Please do ask staff if you have any questions or would like to raise any concerns.
  • Contactless card payments are preferred in order to limit personal interaction but cash will be accepted.

If you’d prefer takeaway service or to eat outside, please visit Platform 2 next to the Science Garden.
