If you are travelling by car please be aware that Thinktank is located within Birmingham’s clean air zone.

Entrance

The entrance to Thinktank is now located on the ground floor, level 0.

Opening Times

Birmingham term time

Open Wednesday – Sunday, 10am - 5pm. 

Birmingham school holidays

Open Monday - Sunday, 10am - 5pm during the holidays, the next holiday is: Friday 22nd July -  Sunday 4th September.

Last admission to the museum is 4pm.

Booking Tickets

We recommend visitors pre-book tickets, particularly at busy times such as weekends and school holidays. This will help to speed up entry to the museum and to allow you to choose a date and time to suit you.

Alternatively visitors can purchase tickets on arrival at the museum subject to availability.

There is an Adult and Toddler (3-5 years old) ticket offer for just £15, valid from Wednesday to Friday during Birmingham term time only. Book your Adult and Toddler tickets.

Students get free admission every Wednesday. Free admission is via walk-up on the day and a valid student photo ID is required. See the Free Student Wednesday page for full details including T&Cs.

The Science Garden is free every day from 3pm, with varying closing times in winter due to light levels. The earliest the garden will close during the winter period is 4pm.

To use Tesco vouchers to book your Thinktank tickets please contact our bookings team by emailing hello@birminghammuseums.org.uk or calling 0121 348 826. We require at least 48 hours notice.

**Planetarium shows are £2.50 per person in addition to the Thinktank admission price. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket desk on arrival, subject to availability. At peak times (weekends and school holidays) tickets can sell out very quickly and entry to the planetarium cannot be guaranteed for every visitor.

Tickets are not refundable.

Children Visiting Us

We welcome unaccompanied children aged 12 or over. Children aged 11 or under will need to be accompanied by a parent, or a guardian aged 16 or over. Children under 16 wanting to join a Planetarium show must be accompanied by a parent, or a guardian aged 16 or over.

Children will be asked to leave if behaviour is not appropriate and affects exhibits or other visitor’s experiences.

Bag Searches

Please be advised that Birmingham Museums reserves the right to undertake searches of bags and personal property, and to refuse entry. Thank you for your cooperation.

When you visit

We want to make sure your visit is as safe and enjoyable as possible so some safety measures will continue:

  • We support staff and visitors who wish to wear a face covering in the museum.
  • We have hand sanitisers at the entrance to Thinktank and throughout the building.
  • Contactless card payments will limit personal interaction, but cash will also be accepted.
  • Please be aware that lockers are not available for use.
  • We have cleaners working throughout the day focusing on touch points and toilets to keep the museum safe and clean.
  • MiniBrum is cleaned regularly throughout the day and loose handling items replaced and cleaned frequently.

Please do not visit us if you are feeling unwell, have any symptoms of Covid-19 or have been in contact with anyone that has had the virus in the last 10 days. Please contact us at hello@birminghammuseums.org.uk to reschedule your visit.

Signal Box Café 

To keep you and other diners safe we have the following measures in place:

  • When you arrive at the café, please take a seat – you’ll find a menu on your table. When you’re ready to order please go to the counter to make payment.
  • A takeaway service is also available. 
  • Staff will be wearing masks and you’ll also find Perspex screens in operation.
  • Contactless card payments are preferred in order to limit personal interaction but cash will be accepted.
