About EVERY THING MUST GO by Joe Lycett
EVERY THING MUST GO is the first major solo art exhibition by comedian Joe Lycett. Over the last twelve months Lycett has been busy producing works that celebrate nostalgia, grief and loss.
Exploring the theme of ‘things that are no longer with us’ and inspired by objects from the city of Birmingham’s collection, the exhibition brings together dozens of never-seen-before pieces. From deceased celebrities and extinct animals to discontinued chocolate bars and destroyed buildings, his subjects are presented in a signature tongue-in-cheek and childlike style.
Transforming the gallery into a bold salon-style display, Lycett’s latest paintings reflect on memory and cultural change through humour, a striking visual approach and a distinctly Brummie perspective.
Designed to overwhelm and delight, Lycett describes the experience as a “neon graveyard.”
