Each year Birmingham Museums offers a range of opportunities for work experience and academic placements.
Our work experience programme is open to anyone 15 years or over who is not currently in employment. Each placement with us is one or two weeks long and is a great chance to gain some experience of the sector, develop your skills and knowledge, as well as getting a general awareness of the working world.
Given the current situation we have cancelled all work experience placements at Birmingham Museums in 2020. We are currently planning to open a 2021 programme for applications in spring next year, but this may be subject to change.
Our work experience programme can be very popular, with over 300 applications each year, and unfortunately we are unable to offer work experience opportunities outside of our advertised placements.
To support your interests in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) or in the Arts we have produced two blogs with some hints and tips for developing your skills and gaining insights into the working world: Keeping Interested in STEM and Keeping Interested in the Arts.
Our academic placement opportunities are available for students 18 years or over who are linked to an educational organisation, we are keen where possible to offer experiences which connect to an individual’s studies.
Any academic placements that we can offer will be advertised within academic institutions with which we have linked. If you are interested in undertaking an academic placement with us, please speak with your coordinator at your academic institution who can contact the HR team directly to see what might be possible.
Please note due to an increasingly high level of demand we are unable to support all enquiries for an academic placement.
