Work Experience and Academic Placements

Are you looking to experience working in a museum? Or hoping to get some behind the scenes knowledge? Or maybe you just want to find out about the working world.

Birmingham Museum’s Trust is the largest independent charitable trust of museums in the UK and we offer a range of opportunities for work experience and academic placements.

Please read the below carefully to make sure you are following the right route in your enquiry.

Work Experience

Birmingham Museums Trust offer a number of work experience placements throughout the year.

Our work experience programme is open to anyone fifteen years or over who is not currently in employment. Each placement is either one or two weeks long and is a great chance to develop your skills and knowledge and get a general awareness of the working world.

To apply for any of the placements below simply download our application form and send it to: workexperience@birminghammuseums.org.uk before the closing date listed.

Most of our 2019 placements have now closed for applications. If you are looking for a placement in 2020 our available opportunities will be posted online at the end of this year.

Please note due to an increasingly high level of demand we are unable to offer work experience opportunities outside of our advertised placements.

Academic Placements

Birmingham Museums Trust is keen to support academic placements where possible which connect to an individual’s studies. We are currently reviewing our policy and procedure as well as working with academic institutions directly to set up placements.

Going forward academic placements will be advertised within academic institutions with which we have linked and confirmed the process with. If you are interested in completing an academic placement with us, please speak with your academic placement coordinator who can get in contact with the HR team directly to arrange it.
