Join independent jeweller Josefina Flello Martinez of Atypical Thing for a festive, hands-on jewellery-making workshop at our new cafe, Craft and Culture, next door to Birmingham's historic Museum of the Jewellery Quarter.

In this relaxed 1.5-hour workshop, you’ll learn how jewellers use soft wax to create unique jewellery designs before they are transformed into precious metal through the lost wax casting  process. Guided by Josefina, you’ll carve, shape and texture your own pendant design using soft jeweller’s wax and simple hand tools, creating a completely one-of-a-kind piece. No previous jewellery-making experience is required. Whether you want to create something simple and delicate, an organic textured design or a meaningful shape for someone special, you’ll be guided through the process from start to finish.

Your wax design will then be professionally cast in recycled sterling silver, finished and polished, ready for you to collect before Christmas.

Event Information

• Spaces are limited to 20 people, ensuring everyone has plenty of guidance throughout the session.
• Please be aware that there are two entrance steps. A ramp is available on request. Please email us in advance so we can have it ready for your arrival.
• Visitors who require a personal assistant for access can bring one free of charge, subject to Birmingham Museums Personal Assistant policy. There's no need to book a separate ticket, simply email hello@birminghammuseums.org.uk in advance to let our team know. Personal assistant admission is for access support only and does not include participation in the workshop. A standard event ticket is required to take part.
