Delve into the history of Ancient Rome at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, using our private education rooms, we will bring the action-packed Ancient Roman army to the 21st century.

Using our wide range of collections, both real and replica, with a little help from some entertaining dressing up opportunities, we will discover what the life of a soldier in Ancient Rome was like.

  • Examining replica object and weaponry that all Roman soldiers would have (trying on a Roman helmet included!)
  • Reasons for people joining the army, including Britain in 43 AD
  • Your students will role play as a Roman soldier, marching in-step, making shield walls and Testudo formations

Important Information

Parts of the tour will require movement and action, particularly whilst using Roman wooden shields. If your class has any access needs, please contact us in advance so steps can be taken to ensure everyone has the best experience.

This session is available on Thursdays and Fridays.
