Sessions for schools
SchoolsWe offer a wide range of stimulating and memorable taught experiences, including on-site, online and outreach sessions.
On-site sessions
Our on-site taught sessions are a great way to explore our venues. They are fantastic opportunity for your pupils to broaden their knowledge in history, art and science.
Taught on-site sessions are currently available at Thinktank, Aston Hall, Blakesley Hall, Sarehole Mill and Weoley Castle Ruins. Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is currently closed due to essential works.
All visits to any of our venues requires advanced booking, this includes self-guided visits (where applicable), taught sessions and teacher previews. For more information see our plan a visit pages.
Online sessions
We offer a range of online sessions across our sites which are available for Key Stage 1-2, where we broadcast into your school. Topics available are Local History and Ancient Civilisations, which includes our popular Ancient Egypt / Greece / Rome sessions.
Combine an online session with a museum loans box
We also offer the use of a museum loans box along with a facilitated online session featuring storytelling and interactive role-play. This unique opportunity brings the museum directly into your classroom with authentic handling artefacts and an online session with a member of our education team.
Outreach: mobile planetarium
New for 2023/24 is our mobile planetarium, where we will bring our portable dome to you to learn all about the wonders of the solar system and beyond. Using state of the art digital technology and an inflatable dome, your pupils can immerse themselves in a planetarium experience without stepping outside their school! Sessions are available for EYFS and Key Stages 1-3.
The dome is approximately 3.1 metres high and 5 metres in diameter and fits into most school halls or gyms.
