The mobile planetarium is going to be visiting my school on _____________________.

This is what it looks like on the outside:

Exterior of a inflatable planetarium.

It will be set up in _________________________ .

The mobile planetarium is a big, round tent that people go inside.

Inside the tent I can look at pictures and videos of the sky, stars and planets.

The tent is held up by air which is pumped into it by a big electric fan. I might feel the air on my skin when we are going inside the tent.

The fan will be loud when we are going inside the tent. It will get turned down so it is quieter once we are all inside.

If I use ear defenders, I can wear them to help when it is noisy or I can put my hands over my ears.

This is a Learning Officer:

A female learning officer standing next to a sign that reads 'Mobile Planetarium'.

Learning Officers are the people who will bring the mobile planetarium to my school and show me things like pictures of planets and stars.

I can ask the Learning Officer questions about what is going to happen and what I see in the planetarium.

It is fine to talk to the Learning Officer.

To get into the mobile planetarium, I will go in through a door that opens and closes with a zip. The Learning Officer and my adults will help me.

This is what the zip door looks like when it is closed:

This is what the zip door looks like when it is open:

The zip is open showing the inside of the planetarium.

This is what the mobile planetarium looks like inside:

Once I am inside the mobile planetarium, I will find a space to sit on the floor. The learning officer and my adults will help me find where to sit.

Inside the planetarium there will be a projector which looks like this:

The projector and light inside the planetarium.

It also has some lights on it so that I can see where I am going.

I must not go near or touch the projector as I could get hurt. This is very important.

If I stay away from the projector and don’t touch it, I will be safe.

Once everyone is sat down in the planetarium, the Learning Officer will close the zip door, like this:

The closed zip from inside the planetarium.

The Learning Officer will slowly turn the lights down and it will get darker. There will still be some light and it shouldn’t get completely dark.

I can use torches or light-up toys if I am feeling worried about it getting dark.

I will stay sat down when I am in the mobile planetarium to keep me safe. If I want to leave the mobile planetarium, I can tell an adult and they will help me.

They might help me leave the planetarium by lifting up the bottom of the fabric so I can crawl out underneath, like this:

A hand holding up the bottom of the planetarium.

I can go out through the zip door if I prefer.

We will look at some pictures and videos of the sky and things in space, like this:

The Learning Officer will tell me what is about to happen during the show so that I know what is coming.

The Learning Officer will tell me information about the things that I am looking at.

I can put my hand up if I want to ask them questions.

I will wait until the Learning Officer points to me to say my question.

There might be some quiet music. If it feels too loud for my ears, I can use ear defenders if I have them or I can ask the Learning Officer to turn the volume down.

At some points, the videos might make me feel like I am flying through space. If I don’t like this feeling, I can close my eyes whenever I want to.

When the show has finished, the Learning Officer will slowly turn the lights back on.

I will go out of the Planetarium through the zip door.

I learnt lots of things about space in the mobile planetarium!
