Mainly originating from the 18th and 19th centuries, this collection was made in the Middle East, South Asia, Japan and South America. It is dominated by decorative art, particularly ceramics, metalwork, jewellery, arms and armour, glass, lacquer sculpture and ivory, with objects acquired as inspiration for Birmingham craftsmen (as with European Decorative Art). A small group of modern and contemporary art represents more recent acquisitions.

Includes:

  • arms and armour from Japan
  • South Asian metalwork.
