Our numismatics collection includes coins, medals and tokens from around the world, with a focus on Birmingham products. They are complemented by collections from around the world from ancient Greece to modern China. The philately collection of largely British and European postage stamps contains 43,950 examples, built over a period of fifty years by one of Birmingham’s earliest philatelists.

Includes:

  • rare British Celtic, Anglo-Saxon and Norman and Medieval coins
  • the Greek, Roman and Byzantine collection, which illustrates the early development of coinage in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East
  • the collection made in Birmingham, which ranges from 18th and 19th centuries made at the Soho Mint, to 20th century material from the Birmingham Mint, tells the history of coin and medal production in the city and its importance across the world.
