Step into the world of experimental photography in this hands-on, camera-less workshop with artist Tom Godwin.

 

Make your own abstract chemigrams by painting photographic paper with sustainable darkroom developers and fixers, then experiment with everyday household ingredients such as turmeric to create vibrant colours, textures, and wonderfully unpredictable results. You can also try lumen printing, one of the earliest photographic processes, using sunlight to capture beautifully detailed silhouettes of leaves, flowers, and other natural objects in rich, unexpected colours.

 

As your prints develop, why not grab yourself a drink from the café bar, relax, and watch the images gradually appear?

 

No experience is needed—simply drop in, get creative, and take home your own unique photographic artworks.

Tom Godwin
Tom's practice centers on experimental photography and videography, creating surreal, visually striking visions of the future that invite open interpretation. Visual storytelling is central to his approach. As someone with dyslexia, he connects more easily with visual communication, and he uses imagery as a direct and intuitive way to express ideas and concepts.
 
A recurring theme in his work is our relationship with nature and the ways we shape future landscapes. He is drawn to the tension between built environments and the natural world, and the continual push and pull as nature works to reclaim space.
 
His practice is strongly influenced by science fiction and its shifting portrayals of the future, from utopian to apocalyptic, reflecting the changing hopes and fears of the societies that produce them. He is committed to analogue photography and the preservation of its processes, often combining analogue and digital methods to create a visual link between past, present, and future.
