A staff member giving a tour to a group of adults and children in an historic jewellery workshop.

Step into the workshop and see everything just as it was on Smith & Pepper’s last working day; the benches, tools, stamps, and machinery all frozen in time. Visit the workshop where you will find a vast array of original tools, stamps and machinery to be seen inside the factory. Gather round the main jewellers’ bench to watch a demonstration of the traditional skills of this fine trade and discover what it was like to work here.

The tour continues upstairs to Miss Olive’s office, the control centre of the factory. This is where Olive Smith and her team of ladies managed materials, processed customer orders, and packed the finished jewellery for delivery. The space remains filled with the tools of their trade: boxes, order books, and catalogue blocks, offering a real glimpse into their daily routines.

The only way to experience the Museum is on a guided tour. Tours last approximately 45 minutes, with time for you to explore the Story of the Jewellery Quarter gallery at your leisure either before or after your tour. For tour times see our Visit page.
