Fossil Fun Weekend
Thinktank Celebrating Mary Anning, the fossil-hunting pioneer! – Book admission ticketsAbout Fossil Fun Weekend
Do you have what it takes to be a fossil hunter?
Come and enjoy a weekend of family fossil fun at Thinktank to celebrate the birthday of Mary Anning, a prehistoric pioneer!
Mary Anning was born on the 25th May 1799 and she dug up the first ever skeleton of an Ichthyosaur - a giant fish-like dinosaur - when she was just just 12 years old! Mary spent her life collecting, sharing and studying fossils. She was a fantastic female scientist whose story is often overlooked.
We'll be celebrating her legacy at Thinktank with our own fossil collections, and lots of exciting talks and activities:
- Join in with our crafting activities and make your own dinosaurs
- Dig for fossils in the Science Garden
- Discover our own Ichthyosaur skeleton in our dinosaur exhibition
- Enjoy family-friendly spotlight tours
- Hear more about Mary Anning's life in our Storytime sessions
- Handle ancient fossils and learn more about them: from dinosaur bones to fossilised poo!
See if you can find all the answers on our special Mary Anning fact-hunting trail
Activities are all included in the standard entry ticket.
