About Jules O’Brian - Comedy at Craft & Culture

Get ready for an unforgettable evening with Jules O'Brian!  at Craft and Culture, a new café bar and community space in the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter.

Avoid Excessive Cleavage (and Other Advice to Ignore) is a warm, witty stand-up show about ageing, expectations, and the endless stream of “helpful” advice we’re all supposed to follow as we get older.
Now in her fifties, Jules O’Brian finds herself on the receiving end of guidance she never asked for: what to wear, how to behave, how to age gracefully, and which inspirational quotes she should apparently be living by. From well-meaning strangers to glossy headlines and social media wisdom, everyone seems keen to explain how life should be done. Jules has had enough.

With sharp observations and a rebellious edge, she dismantles the rules, clichés and motivational nonsense that clutter modern life.
Blending intelligence with warmth, Jules draws on her background as a former teacher and her experiences as a comedy writer to deliver a show that’s smart, thoughtful, and unapologetically funny.

This is stand-up that laughs at ageing rather than fearing it, and refuses to be told what’s “appropriate” at any stage of life.

Having received strong audience responses and positive panel feedback at recent festivals and previews, 'Avoid Excessive Cleavage (and Other Advice to Ignore)' has proved popular with mixed audiences, including groups of friends and couples.

"Come for the laughs, stay for the relief of ignoring the advice altogether.”

Part of Birmingham Comedy Festival, Friday 2 to Sunday 11 October 2026. For more information, see:https://www.bhamcomfest.co.uk
