About Rhythms of India with RBC India Assemble

The RBC India Ensemble, founded by Dr Radhika Balakrishnan during her tenure as the inaugural ICCR Chair in Indian Studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, brings together students from diverse musical backgrounds to celebrate the richness of Indian music through collaboration and creative exploration.

Blending Indian classical traditions with Western music and contemporary influences, the ensemble creates a vibrant musical experience that transcends cultural and musical boundaries. Rooted in the spirit of exchange, discovery and togetherness, this performance celebrates the universal language of music and the many ways in which different traditions can come together to create something extraordinary. This student-led ensemble is a reflection of the rich diversity of Birmingham, and its love for all things Indian. Its journey started with a star studded performance, joined by Dr Shankar Mahadevan, Dr Zakir Hussein and Dr John McLaughlin, fueling hopes of collaborative music across barriers.
