About Algorave - Experimental music night at the museum

Algorave returns to Birmingham for a special evening of live-coded music and visuals at one of Birmingham’s most beautiful and unique venues: the historic Tearoom at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery!

Algoraves are "algorithmic raves" where artists and musicians use algorithmic tools to create audiovisual code-driven performances. Since starting in 2012, Algoraves have established a large global community that encourages experimentation, active participation in the development of software tools, and, most importantly, creating fun and engaging music and visuals!

About the artists

bundy

bundy is a musician and audiovisual artist from Birmingham. After encountering live-coding last year, performing at No Bounds, Peckham Digital and Corsica Studios, he accentuated his existing sound – a blend of folk, grime and pop – with algorithmic accompaniment using ‘strudel’, an open-source software of which he is also a contributor.

His music morphs from thumping, club-inspired hip-hop to introspective guitar-led ballads and eccentric sound experiments – sometimes all within a single set. At its core, these disparate elements are bound by the earnestness and honesty of his lyricism.

hellocatfood

Antonio Roberts (aka hellocatfood) is a Birmingham-based musician and visual artist. Working primarily with TidalCycles, VCV Rack and Pure Data, he employs algorithmic methods to make music that is both rhythmic and glitchy.
Since 2019 he has been building a reputation for his live performances, fusing genres ranging from ambient, footwork and IDM to drum and bass. He complements this with live visuals made using live coding software and hardware video synthesisers.
He has performed across the UK and Europe at respected venues and festivals including Green Man, Barbican, No Bounds Festival, Tate Modern, Supernormal, Corsica Studios, Cafe Oto, IKLECTIK, Psychic Dancehall, and Festival Tormenta.

He has supported the likes of Avalanche Kaito, Matthew Herbert and Momoko Gill, Matters and Monoxide Brothers.

nadya via proxy

Using live coding, nadya via proxy, reworks and reconstructs their own productions in a performance setting. Each set becomes an experiment in structure, temporality, and melodic development, unfolding through semi-improvisation. Alongside the code, they sing live, processing their voice with evolving vocal effects as the performance takes shape.
