Held in our Industrial Gallery, these free lunchtime performances take place on the last Friday of every month — offering a unique chance to enjoy world-class talent in an inspiring setting.

 

26th September - Jezt Quartet

The Jezt Quartet - violinists Zinnia Smart and Tehya Dawson, violist Erin Vinter, and cellist Jake Ryan - bring extensive orchestral experience to their performances, reimagining Ozzy Osbourne hits and other rock classics including Paranoid, War Pigs, and Enter Sandman for string quartet. 31st October - Caramillo Wind Trio

The Caramillo Trio - Lucy Park (clarinet), Mary Glasby (oboe), and Casper Shaw (bassoon) - will delight audiences with an engaging Halloween performances that blend classical, folk, film, and interactive sing-along music. More information below. 

28th November - RBC Trumpet Club

The Trumpet Club brings their dynamic trumpet ensemble to exciting performances, including a special concert celebrating Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery's 140th birthday. More information below. 

12th December - Vocal Due Hannah Devereux and Millie Royle

Vocal Duo Hannah Devereux and Millie Royle bring their passion for opera, musical theatre, and festive favourites to a lively Christmas-themed recital, promising a sparkling mix of classical arias, musical theatre highlights, and beloved seasonal tunes.

Jezt Quartet

The Jezt Quartet is a vibrant string quartet formed of musicians who met while studying at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Violinists Zinnia Smart and Tehya Dawson, violist Erin Vinter, and cellist Jake Ryan have performed together in a wide range of orchestras and chamber groups during their time at RBC, and bring this wealth of shared experience to their playing as a quartet. Collectively, they have worked with renowned artists and ensembles including the CBSO, Welsh National Opera, London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, and have appeared in venues ranging from Symphony Hall in Birmingham to The Royal Albert Hall in London.

Caramillo Wind Trio

The Caramillo Trio is a vibrant reed trio formed at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, featuring Lucy Park on clarinet, Mary Glasby on oboe, and Casper Shaw on bassoon. Passionate about bringing music to a wide range of audiences, the ensemble is equally at home performing in libraries and schools as they are in concert halls and on festival stages. 

Their engaging and eclectic programmes span classical repertoire, folk tunes, film music, and interactive sing-along songs—making each concert a welcoming and memorable experience. In addition to their extensive community outreach work, they were honoured to perform at the prestigious Three Choirs Festival in summer 2024, a highlight in their growing list of accomplishments. 

Friendly, accessible, and musically adventurous, the Caramillo Trio is committed to sharing the joy and versatility of reed music with all.
 

RBC Trumpet Club

Trumpet Club brings together the trumpet players of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Each week, they meet to learn from and collaborate with each other in a combination of individual performance and exciting chamber music. Formed in the late 90s by Andrew Stone-Fewings to promote camaraderie between the trumpet students, the weekly sessions provide stimulating opportunities to improve technical skills and musicality while developing the close-knit connections within the department. Recent achievements include a vibrant bid for the Bernard Brown Brass Chamber Music Prize in 2023.

Vocal Due Hannah Devereux and Millie Royle

Hannah Devereux is a 21 year old soprano from Wexford, Ireland, currently in her final undergraduate year at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire studying with Jonathon Gunthorpe. With a background in musical theatre, Hannah continues to enjoy taking part in musicals (Rapunzel/Into the Woods, Wife/Putting it Together, Isabel/Pirates of Penzance). In 2023, Hannah represented her university in the finals of the Junior Kathleen Ferrier vocal competition. Since joining Conservatoire, Hannah has played the roles of Valetto in Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Dorothee in Massenet's Cendrillon, Bellangere in Dukas' Ariane et Barbe-bleue, Nancy in Britten's Albert Herring and sang in the choruses of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Last year, Hannah received the Young Musician bursary from Music for Wexford which included her first solo public recital with pianist Rebecca Warren. Hannah is very grateful to have been supported by the Stephen Dodgson Charitable Trust, the Josephine Baker Trust, the AIMS society and the Ella Cheshire scholarship award during her studies. 

Millie Royle is a current fourth year undergraduate vocal student at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, under the tutelage of Rebecca Bottone. A performer from a young age, she began her training in musical theatre before making the leap to classical singing in her one-on-one singing lessons, consequently earning her a place at The Glyndebourne Academy in 2021. During her time at the conservatoire, she has participated in numerous project performances including collaborations with Birmingham Royal Ballet and London Lawyer’s Music in London and Paris. She was the recipient of the Collingwood Prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Society Bursary Competition in her second year and, as of recent, is supported joined the Josephine Baker Trust. Her past roles at the Conservatoire include Second Spirit in Massenet’s Cendrillion, the Sandman in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Mélisande in Dukas’ Ariane et Barbe-bleue, Emmie in Britten’s Albert Herring, Belinda in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Béatrice in Berlioz’s Béatrice et Bénédict. She looks forward to performing in RBC’s upcoming Spring Opera, Orphée aux enfers by Offenbach. 

Hannah and Millie are incredibly excited to share their Christmas themed programme, sharing in the delights of the music they love best. From opera and musical theatre to Christmas classics, this recital won’t be one to miss!
