Join our expert guides as you:
- Wander through off-limits spaces
- Soak in the incredible Victorian architecture from a new perspective
- Hear about recent and upcoming renovation projects
- Encounter a few collection superstars along the way
- Enjoy quirky tales from Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery's colourful past, from mysterious goings-on to hidden passageways
The building itself is one of our most fascinating artefacts, come and experience it in a whole new light.
Roof and Basement Tours
Throughout January and February join us for our Roof and Basement Tours.
Explore the spaces above and below Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. This tour will take you from the council basement that was used as a temporary mortuary in World War Two, to the hidden void above the iconic Round Room where you can peek down at passing visitors.
Accessibility: Please note that this tour involves accessing lower levels via a narrow staircase with steep steps. There are over 100 steps in total. Unfortunately, this means it is not suitable for visitors who cannot use stairs, including wheelchair or mobility scooter users. We recommend this tour only for visitors with a confident/high level of mobility. Some areas of this tour will also be at height so may not be suitable for those afraid of heights.
Tours start at 11am and last approximately 1 hour.
Spaces are limited. Book now and uncover the hidden history of Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
