The Last Dance of the Cuckoos: Screening and Q&A with Andy Hollingworth and Matt Holt
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery BookAbout The Last Dance of the Cuckoos: Screening and Q&A with Andy Hollingworth and Matt Holt
Join us for a special screening of the charming documentary The Last Dance of the Cuckoos, followed by a Q&A with photographer Andy Hollingworth and filmmaker Matt Holt.
The film follows Andy on a delightful journey, taking Stan Laurel’s touring hat from his birthplace in Cumbria to Cobh in County Cork, the harbour town that welcomed Laurel & Hardy with unforgettable joy in September 1953. For Laurel & Hardy, it was remembered as the greatest day of their lives—and this film captures the magic of that story with warmth, humour, and nostalgia.
The event takes place inside the I photograph comedians! exhibition, offering a unique chance to experience Andy’s photography before and after the screening, and see how his work celebrates comedy, performance, and the human stories behind the laughs.
The exhibition features nearly 80 images, including studio portraits, rare contemplative moments off-stage and live stage performances. It also features comedy memorabilia including a signed pair of Rik Mayall’s underpants and photographs of iconic objects such as Billy Connolly’s banana boots.
